Genuine Panama, handwoven in Ecuador. 100% Dehydrated palm leaves fibres Handmade in Ecuador The Panama hat (also known as Jipijapa in Spanish-speaking countries) is a hand-woven straw hat from Latin America whose manufacture began in Ecuador in the 17th century and then gradually spread. It is made from the fine, so-called "toquilla straw" of the disc flower plant (Carludovica palmata, also "Panama hat plant") and is not to be confused with the pintao traditionally worn in Panama. The Panama hat has been made in the provinces of Manabí and Azuay in Ecuador since 1630.
